Barking Sphinx

The Barking Sphinx Performance Society (BSPS) was established in 1998 to support the creation, production and presentation of contemporary music for small ensembles including new music, musique actuelle and improvised music; to foster multi-media and interdisciplinary collaboration in the creation and presentation of new work; to educate Canadian audiences about creative music in general; and to enhance the development of the arts and cultural heritage of British Columbia.

Some of the events presented by Barking Sphinx are Feu Vert – A Tribute to Claude Ranger (November 2012), Film in Music (April 2013), Michael Blakes’s Komagata Maru Blues (June 2014), and the annual Vancouver Improvised Music Meeting since 2014. Barking Sphinx’s ongoing activities also include long standing collaborations with musicians such as Wayne Horvitz, Robin Holcomb and Mark Dresser, workshops and performances with younger ensembles such as Ethos Collective, and Pugs and Crows.
